Israel’s military spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, confirmed on Tuesday that Hamas deputy military commander Marwan Issa was killed in an Israeli strike earlier this month. The statement corroborates earlier reports of Issa’s death.
“We have checked all the intelligence,” Rear Admiral Hagari stated in a televised announcement. “Marwan Issa was eliminated in the strike we carried out around two weeks ago,” he added.
The killing of Issa, a key figure in Hamas’ military leadership, marks a significant development in the ongoing tensions between Israel and Hamas. The strike underscores Israel’s continued efforts to target high-ranking members of Hamas, whom they consider as threats to their security.
Hamas, meanwhile, has not officially commented on Issa’s death. The militant group has been engaged in periodic conflicts with Israel, including rocket attacks and border skirmishes, as part of the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The confirmation of Issa’s killing comes amid a backdrop of heightened tensions in the region and underscores the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has seen cycles of violence and attempts at peace negotiations over the years.
