The video footage shows the woman in an orange top, preparing to snap a photo while standing near a child. As the train approaches, the child quickly ducks down, but tragically, the woman remains in place. The corner of the train engine strikes her on the back of her head, causing her to fall forward. In a harrowing moment, the shocked child runs away, while a nearby man rushes to grab the victim’s body and pull her to safety just inches away from the passing train.
The ‘Empress’, officially known as Canadian Pacific 2816, is a steam locomotive dating back to 1930. It embarked on a cross-country journey from Calgary, traversing Canada, the US, and Mexico as part of the Final Spike Steam Tour, commemorating a historic merger that formed Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC). However, this celebratory journey turned tragic with the loss of life in Mexico.
In response to the incident, CPKC expressed regret and emphasized safety measures around train tracks. They urged people to maintain a safe distance of at least 10 meters from the tracks, refrain from stopping near or on the tracks, and avoid attempting to climb onto trains or railway infrastructure.
