US Stops Houthi Drones, Missiles in Red Sea Attack

Unrelenting Houthi Attacks in Red Sea Escalate Tensions in the Middle East

In a series of orchestrated assaults, Yemen-based Houthi rebels have intensified their strikes on multiple targets in the Red Sea, sparking heightened concern over global trade routes and regional stability.

The Pentagon confirmed a relentless barrage on shipping in the Red Sea, disclosing that over a 10-hour period, Houthi rebels launched a total of 12 drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land-attack missiles. Fortunately, no injuries or damages to vessels were reported.

Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for a strike on the vessel identified as MSC UNITED, alongside launching drones targeting military sites in southern Israel. These assaults mark the latest in a string of attacks since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7.

In a statement, the rebels declared their intent to target Israeli-linked vessels, pressing for a cessation of the offensive in Gaza, where Israel is engaged in conflict with Hamas militants.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed explosions near Yemen’s Hodeida port but assured the safety of a transiting vessel and its crew, reporting no significant damage.

Explosions off Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula alarmed observers, prompting the Israeli army to intercept aerial objects in the Red Sea. Eyewitnesses near Dahab reported witnessing a strange object falling into the water following a loud explosion. No casualties were reported in these incidents.

The Pentagon highlighted that Houthi-initiated drone and missile attacks have targeted ten merchant vessels involving more than 35 countries, endangering a critical transit route responsible for up to 12 percent of global trade. As a response, the United States has assembled a multinational naval task force to safeguard Red Sea shipping.

While the Houthis have directed attacks towards Israel, most have failed to reach their intended targets, yet the ongoing escalation raises concerns over regional stability and the safety of vital trade routes.

These escalating incidents underscore the need for diplomatic intervention and international cooperation to quell tensions and ensure the safety of maritime commerce in the region.
