Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has unveiled a unique initiative by introducing a virtual artificial intelligence (AI) spokesperson named Victoria Shi. This digital representative, based on the likeness of Ukrainian singer Rosalie Nombre, aims to provide timely updates on consular affairs, including developments related to the ongoing war with Russia.
The decision to create Victoria Shi reflects Ukraine’s efforts to streamline communication processes, especially during wartime, by leveraging AI technology. The spokesperson’s comments will be shared on the ministry’s official website and social media platforms, offering operational and verified information from the consular department.
In a statement, the ministry highlighted the significance of this AI-driven approach in optimizing resources and ensuring efficient communication. Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba emphasized that real diplomats can now focus on other essential tasks while Victoria Shi handles public updates on consular matters.
The virtual spokesperson, as portrayed in a teaser video, expressed her commitment to reporting news about consular operations, responding to emergencies, and protecting the rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens abroad. The use of Nombre’s voice and likeness in this project has been graciously offered “pro bono” to support Ukraine’s communication objectives.
To prevent digital counterfeiting, the ministry has implemented measures such as QR codes, ensuring the authenticity of Victoria Shi’s communications. This innovative approach marks a significant step in leveraging AI technology to enhance transparency and efficiency in government communications during challenging times.
