In a significant development, Ukraine’s air force successfully intercepted and downed five missiles and 48 out of 53 drones launched by Russian forces during an overnight attack across nine regions. This successful defense effort comes amidst heightened tensions and ongoing conflict in the region.
The attack, which targeted regions including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa, Kherson, and Mykolaiv, resulted in various levels of damage to local infrastructure. In the Kyiv region, drones and Kh-101/Kh-555 missiles caused a fire at an industrial facility, though emergency services managed to contain the blaze without any casualties reported.
Kharkiv region governor Oleh Syniehubov highlighted the impact of the drone attack, mentioning damage to residential buildings, a store, a post office, and other local structures. However, the situation in other regions varied, with some areas reporting minimal or no damage thanks to the swift response of the Ukrainian military.
Governors from different regions provided updates on the defensive actions taken. Three drones were destroyed in Dnipropetrovsk region, while Kirovohrad reported shooting down one drone without any resulting damage. Similarly, Khmelnytskyi governor confirmed the downing of 11 targets with no significant impact on infrastructure.
Ukraine’s Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk reassured the public that the attack did not cause damage to energy infrastructure. This is a critical aspect considering Russia’s recent targeting of Ukrainian energy facilities, leading to disruptions in power supply across the country.
