In a shocking and tragic incident, a 27-year-old Brazilian woman named Fernanda Valoz Pinto lost her life after consuming chocolate that had been gifted to her by a palm reader who had predicted her impending demise. The mysterious and untimely death occurred in August of this year, leaving her family in shock and mourning.
The tragic sequence of events unfolded as Ms. Pinto was walking through the city center of Maceio, Brazil, known for its fortune tellers and mystics. She was approached by an elderly woman who offered to read her palm. The palm reader made a grim prediction, telling Ms. Pinto that she had only a few days left to live and presented her with a chocolate as a gift.
The victim’s cousin, Bianca Cristina, recounted the unsettling turn of events, stating, “She vomited, her vision was a bit blurred, her body was soft… it was a matter of hours.”
Ms. Pinto, initially unsuspecting of any danger, decided to eat the chocolate since it was packaged. However, shortly after consuming it, she began to feel unwell and conveyed her distress to her family through text messages. She described symptoms of extreme discomfort, including a bitter taste in her mouth, blurred vision, weakness, and nausea.
Despite having preexisting conditions such as gastritis and an ulcer, her family grew suspicious after she mentioned her encounter with the palm reader. Her text messages indicated that she linked her sudden illness to accepting and consuming the chocolate from the elderly woman in the city center.
In a desperate attempt to save her life, Ms. Pinto was rushed to the Santa Casa de Misericordia hospital but, tragically, could not be saved. She passed away on August 4.
A subsequent toxicology report revealed that her body contained high concentrations of pesticides known as sulfotep and terbufos. These substances are often associated with cases of poisoning and intoxication in Brazil, despite being regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply.
It remains uncertain whether the chocolate itself was the direct cause of Ms. Pinto’s death. In light of these findings, authorities are now investigating whether foul play was involved in the tragic incident, focusing on the possibility that the fortune teller may have been hired to harm Ms. Pinto.
This heart-wrenching incident has left both the family and the local community in shock, highlighting the need for vigilance and caution when accepting gifts from strangers, even in seemingly benign situations.
