In the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Russian defence ministry confirmed a missile strike on a plant in Kharkiv, a northeastern city in Ukraine known for repairing armoured vehicles for the Ukrainian military. This incident has raised concerns as hostilities persist in the region.
The Russian defence ministry did not provide specific details regarding when the missile strike occurred or additional information about the attack. However, regional governor Oleh Synehubov, using the Telegram messaging app, stated that Russia had targeted a “civilian enterprise” in Kharkiv with four S300 missiles. Reuters sought a response from the Kharkiv regional administration but had not received an immediate reply.
Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, had a population of more than 1.4 million before the conflict began in February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. Parts of the city are located less than 20 miles (32 km) from the Russian border. The conflict has taken a toll on Kharkiv, particularly its northern suburbs, which have witnessed the scars of earlier fighting.
