Two British Royal Navy mine-hunter vessels collided in Bahrain Harbour on Friday, resulting in a loud crashing noise and causing one of the ships to rock. The incident involved HMS Chiddingfold reversing into HMS Bangor, which was moored at the time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and both vessels are said to be in stable condition.
The Royal Navy confirmed the collision and stated that an investigation into the incident has been initiated. The incident occurred as the Royal Navy, in collaboration with the U.S. Navy, is actively engaged in efforts to safeguard Red Sea shipping from increased attacks by Houthi forces based in Yemen.
Rear Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the Royal Navy’s Commander Operations, assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is already underway. He acknowledged that while no injuries were sustained, some damage was inflicted during the collision. Admiral Ahlgren pledged swift implementation of any procedural changes necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“I assure you that a full and thorough investigation is already underway, and any changes in procedure that could prevent further incidents will be rapidly implemented,” stated Rear Admiral Ahlgren in a post on social media.
The Royal Navy has been actively collaborating with the U.S. Navy to counter the upsurge in attacks by Houthi forces, who claim to be acting in solidarity with the Palestinian group Hamas. The ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel in Gaza has led to disruptions in world trade, raising concerns about potential supply bottlenecks.
