Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, has ramped up security with the deployment of a robotic dog, a futuristic addition to the property’s protective measures. The robotic canine, made by Boston Dynamics, was spotted patrolling the estate on November 8, enhancing the already fortified security system at the private estate.
The mechanical dog, moving along the lush grounds of the estate, was seen walking among the palm trees, equipped with surveillance technology and advanced sensors. A warning label on its side reads, “DO NOT PET,” emphasizing the serious nature of the security measure.
The move comes just days after Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections, marking an upgrade in the security apparatus surrounding him. The United States Secret Service confirmed the presence of the robotic dog, detailing that it was part of efforts to protect the President-elect. A spokesperson for the agency stated, “Safeguarding the President-elect is a top priority. While we cannot go into specifics, the robotic dogs are equipped with surveillance technology and various sensors to support protective operations.”
Trump, who has survived two assassination attempts during his political career, is taking no chances. He has been organizing his incoming administration from Mar-a-Lago following his electoral victory over Kamala Harris.
Robotic dogs, which have gained popularity among law enforcement and military agencies across the US, are proving to be invaluable tools in keeping officers and first responders out of harm’s way. The New York Police Department (NYPD) introduced their own robotic K-9 unit, “Digidogs,” last year. However, the introduction of such technology has not been without controversy. Social media users have compared the robot dogs to characters from the dystopian TV series Black Mirror.
These machines have also been deployed for critical life-saving tasks. In a notable incident last year, a robotic dog was used to search for survivors and assess damage after a parking garage collapse in Lower Manhattan. Moreover, Ukraine’s military used 30 robotic dogs to help deliver supplies and conduct reconnaissance against Russian forces earlier this year.
As technology continues to evolve, robot dogs appear to be a growing presence in both security and emergency response efforts, offering a cutting-edge solution to complex and dangerous situations.
