Rishi Sunak Playfully Embraces "India's Son-In-Law" Nickname Ahead of G20 Summit

Rishi Sunak, the British Chancellor of the Exchequer, expressed his delight at being referred to as “India’s son-in-law” as he embarked on his visit to New Delhi for the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Sunak, who is of Indian heritage and married to Akshata Murty, the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, jokingly acknowledged the affectionate nickname.

During his visit, Sunak is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on stabilizing the global economy, building international relationships, and supporting vulnerable populations.

The UK is keen on discussing the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Downing Street highlighting India’s crucial role and influence. Additionally, the India-UK free trade agreement negotiations are expected to feature prominently in the discussions. The bilateral trade relationship between India and the UK is valued at approximately GBP 36 billion, with both sides aiming for a deep and forward-looking trade deal.
