Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 102nd episode of his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat, discussed the significance of June 25 as a dark period in India’s history due to the imposition of the Emergency in 1975. He emphasized the atrocities committed during that time on those supporting democracy, stating that India, as the mother of democracy, holds democratic values and the Constitution supreme.
PM Modi acknowledged the importance of remembering and reflecting upon the Emergency, highlighting the struggle of millions of people who vehemently opposed the suspension of civil liberties. He emphasized the significance of observing such crimes during the ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, as it serves to teach younger generations about the meaning and importance of democracy.
During the Mann Ki Baat show, PM Modi also commended Indian athletes for their recent achievements. He celebrated the Indian women’s team for clinching the Women’s Junior Asia Cup for the first time, while also lauding the Indian men’s hockey team for their victory in the Junior Asia Cup. Modi expressed pride in India’s growing success in international sporting events and credited the nation’s youth for their remarkable performances.
Highlighting India’s progress in disaster management, PM Modi expressed confidence in the swift recovery of the people of Kutch following the devastation caused by cyclone Biparjoy. He recalled how, after a devastating earthquake two decades ago, doubts were cast on Kutch’s ability to recover. However, the resilience of the people of Kutch prevailed, inspiring the prime minister to applaud their determination.
PM Modi further highlighted India’s improved disaster management capabilities, citing it as an example for other nations. He emphasized that the country’s ability to handle natural disasters has significantly strengthened in recent years.
Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall near Jakhau on Thursday evening, resulting in widespread destruction in the Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat.
As the nation reflects on the dark era of the Emergency and celebrates the accomplishments of its athletes, PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat continues to serve as a platform for addressing crucial issues and inspiring the citizens of India.
