Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, was struck by an airstrike on Friday, following a series of deadly Israeli raids the day before. The latest attack has sparked widespread concern as the Iran-backed Huthi rebels have blamed the United States and Britain for the strike, calling it a result of “US-British aggression.”
Witnesses in Sanaa reported hearing a loud explosion and felt the tremors of the blast. “I heard the blast. My house shook,” one local resident told AFP. There was no immediate comment from Israel, the United States, or Britain regarding the strike.
This fresh attack comes just a day after Israeli raids on vital infrastructure in Sanaa, including its international airport. The Thursday Israeli airstrikes led to the deaths of at least six people and were seen as retaliation for a series of attacks on Israel by the Huthi rebels.
The Huthis have been involved in targeting shipping routes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden for several months, escalating tensions in the region. In response, both the US and British forces have carried out reprisal strikes aimed at curbing the rebel attacks. These military actions have contributed to an increasingly volatile situation in the region, as rival factions continue to exchange fire across multiple fronts.
The ongoing conflict has led to widespread suffering, with Yemen facing a devastating humanitarian crisis. Thousands of lives have been lost, and millions more have been displaced since the civil war began in 2014. The situation remains dire, and there is growing international concern over the potential for further escalation as regional powers continue their military actions in the war-torn country.
As the conflict continues to unfold, many fear that these strikes are only adding to the devastation and uncertainty in Yemen, with little prospect for peace on the horizon.
