Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has issued a call to Muslim nations, urging them to cease oil and food exports to Israel while demanding an immediate cessation of Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip. This appeal, delivered in a speech, underscores the deepening concerns and tensions in the region.
Khamenei’s statement came as a response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, where Israel has pledged to eradicate Hamas, a Tehran-backed organization that governs the Gaza Strip. The current escalation began with a deadly attack on October 7, resulting in the loss of 1,400 lives and the taking of hundreds of hostages.
“The bombings on Gaza must stop immediately … the path of oil and food exports to the Zionist regime should be stopped,” declared Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during his address, as reported by Iranian state media.
Israel’s response to the October 7 attack has been characterized by a sustained and unprecedented bombardment of Gaza, along with the imposition of a siege on the enclave. Palestinian authorities have reported a devastating toll, with more than 8,000 people killed, further intensifying the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Iran’s clerical leaders have issued stern warnings to Israel, cautioning of potential escalation if Israeli aggression against Palestinians does not cease. These warnings have also indicated that Tehran-backed proxies in the Middle East stand ready to take action in response.
The situation continues to draw international attention and concern, with Khamenei’s call to halt exports serving as a reflection of Iran’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and its desire for an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The coming days will be crucial in determining the course of events in the region as diplomatic and geopolitical tensions persist.
