Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, in a recent conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urged India to employ its capabilities to bring an end to Israeli actions in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict. The call took place on Monday and centered on addressing the escalating crisis in the region.
According to the Iranian readout of the discussion, President Raisi invoked India’s historical struggles against Western colonialism and its prominent role as one of the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement. He underscored India’s responsibility and global position in advocating for the oppressed.
Raisi conveyed a message of expectation, stating, “Today, India is expected to use all its capacities to end the Zionist crimes against the oppressed people of Gaza.” His words reflect the pressing need for international intervention to alleviate the suffering and violence in Gaza.
Furthermore, the Iranian President emphasized Tehran’s support for a global collaborative effort aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire, lifting the blockade, and providing essential humanitarian aid to the besieged people of Gaza. He expressed the collective outrage of nations worldwide at the ongoing loss of Palestinian lives and the dire humanitarian situation.
President Raisi denounced the tragic loss of innocent lives, including women and children, as well as the targeting of vital facilities such as hospitals, schools, mosques, churches, and residential areas. He asserted, “Such actions are condemned and unacceptable from the perspective of humanity.”
Raisi highlighted the legitimate right of Palestinian resistance groups to confront the occupation imposed by the “usurping Zionist regime.” He called on all countries to support the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom from oppression.
In a thought-provoking comparison, President Raisi questioned the international community’s stance, stating, “How come that the struggle of European countries against Nazi Germany is an admirable and heroic act, but the resistance of the Palestinian people against the child-killing and criminal Zionist regime is condemned?!”
Beyond discussions about the Israel-Hamas conflict, President Raisi emphasized the strategic nature of Iran’s relations with India. He stressed the need for planning and advancing cooperation to address any existing delays in this strategic partnership.
The North-South Corridor was also a topic of importance during the conversation. President Raisi underscored its potential benefits for all countries in the region and urged India to make “serious investments” to fortify sustainable economic cooperation, particularly in the Chabahar Port.
Prime Minister Modi, during the dialogue, reiterated the importance of preventing further escalation in the region, ensuring continued humanitarian assistance, and working towards the swift restoration of peace and stability in the conflict-ridden area.
Both leaders also expressed their satisfaction with the progress in bilateral cooperation, including the development of the Chabahar port.
The conversation between the two leaders underscores the urgency of addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza and highlights the need for international collaboration to end the conflict and restore peace in the region.
