Tragedy struck on February 14th in Reading, south-east England, as Indian restaurant manager Vignesh Pattabhiraman lost his life in a road collision while cycling home from work. The incident has sparked a murder investigation by British police, leading to a series of arrests in connection with the case.
Pattabhiraman, aged 36, was commuting from his workplace at the Indian restaurant Vel when he was involved in a collision with a vehicle at the Cadugan Place junction in the city. Despite immediate medical attention at the scene and swift transport to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Pattabhiraman succumbed to his injuries.
Shazeb Khalid, 24 years old, has been charged with murder and appeared at Reading Magistrates Court following his arrest on suspicion of involvement in the fatal incident. Seven other individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 48 and all from the same city, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin, of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, expressed condolences to Pattabhiraman’s family and reiterated the ongoing investigation’s commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding his tragic death. Brangwin urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the authorities in their inquiries.
In response to the incident, the Major Crime Unit has assured the public of a continued police presence in the area to address any concerns and maintain community safety throughout the investigation.
Meanwhile, Pattabhiraman’s friends and family have launched a Just Giving charity initiative to aid with repatriation costs and provide support for his grieving wife, Ramya. The fundraiser has garnered overwhelming support, with donations exceeding GBP 39,000 within days of its creation.
