Amidst rising tensions in the South China Sea, the Indian Navy has deployed three ships to the region for operational deployment. Led by Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar, Indian Naval Ships Delhi, Shakti, and Kiltan arrived at the Changi naval base in Singapore as part of their three-day visit before proceeding to Malaysia and the Philippines.
The deployment of these ships is part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet operations in the South China Sea. This move highlights the close ties between the Indian and Singaporean navies and serves as a demonstration of India’s commitment to regional stability and security.
The South China Sea has been a focal point of geopolitical tensions, with China asserting expansive territorial claims that are contested by neighboring countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, and Taiwan. The presence of Indian naval vessels in the region comes at a time when China is actively engaged in maritime disputes, including a standoff with US-backed Philippine naval ships.
During their visit, the Indian naval ships were welcomed by personnel from the Singapore Navy and the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore. A reception onboard INS Shakti hosted by Rear Admiral Dhankhar and the Indian High Commissioner provided an opportunity for engagement with guests and mission heads, emphasizing the shared values and cooperation between India and Singapore in maritime security.
The Ministry of Defence in New Delhi stated that the visit aims to strengthen the longstanding friendship and cooperation between India and Singapore through various engagements, including interactions with the High Commission of India, professional exchanges with the Republic of Singapore Navy, and community outreach activities.
India and Singapore have maintained robust naval relations over the past three decades, marked by regular visits, exchange of best practices, and reciprocal training arrangements. This operational deployment reinforces India’s strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific region and underscores its commitment to promoting peace and stability in maritime domains.
