Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group based in Lebanon, has escalated its conflict with Israel by launching more than 60 rockets at Israeli military positions. This latest exchange of fire comes amid ongoing tensions following a series of attacks and retaliatory strikes between Hezbollah and Israel.
According to reports, Hezbollah targeted Israeli military positions in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights in retaliation for overnight airstrikes on Lebanon’s Baalbek area. The group stated that their missile attack was a response to Israel’s actions in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon, where Hezbollah holds significant influence.
Lebanese state media confirmed an Israeli airstrike in the Baalbek area, which resulted in injuries to a civilian and caused fires in the region. Additionally, a source close to Hezbollah mentioned that one of the strikes hit a Hezbollah military camp.
In recent days, the conflict has intensified with Hezbollah launching drones at a military base near Tiberias, one of its deepest attacks into Israeli territory since the clashes began. This escalation follows Israel’s announcement of killing one of Hezbollah’s field commanders in southern Lebanon.
The cross-border fighting has led to casualties on both sides, with at least 413 people killed in Lebanon, mostly militants, and dozens of civilians. On the Israeli side, 14 soldiers and 10 civilians have lost their lives. Furthermore, tens of thousands of people have been displaced in areas adjacent to the border due to the ongoing hostilities.
The situation remains tense as both Hezbollah and Israel continue to exchange fire, raising concerns about further escalation and the impact on civilian populations in the region. International efforts to de-escalate the conflict are underway, but the situation remains volatile with no immediate resolution in sight.
