According to reports, Deborah and Shlomi Matias were inside a safe room with their 16-year-old son, Rotem Matias, when Hamas militants forcibly entered their home, breaking through doors and opening fire. Deborah and Shlomi’s desperate act of protection saved their son’s life, although he sustained an injury when a bullet entered his abdomen. He is now in recovery at a hospital in Southern Israel.

Professor Troen condemned Hamas for the well-rehearsed and planned act of violence, attributing it to the actions of a government. He criticized the organization for the devastating consequences of its actions.
