In a tragic incident, two people lost their lives and over a dozen partygoers were injured when a glass balcony at a nightclub in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, shattered. The accident occurred at the Rich Club, located approximately 480 kilometers northwest of Mexico City, during a concert by popular Mexican artist Kevin Moreno.
The victims who died in the incident have been identified as 21-year-old Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente and 17-year-old Rodrigo Espinosa Alonso. The glass balustrade gave way, causing several individuals to plummet 40 feet onto the main square below the nightclub.
A disturbing video of the incident has been circulating on social media, showing people on the street narrowly escaping the falling debris from the shattered balcony.
Town hall representative Jorge Hernandez revealed that the nightclub had not sought or received approval to host the concert. He attributed the tragedy to the uncontrolled crowd pressure that caused the third-floor railing to collapse.
“The constant and uncontrolled presence of people attending this event caused one of the railings on the third floor of this building to give way under the pressure and lead to this tragedy which claimed the lives of two people, according to the information we have so far,” Hernandez stated.
In addition to the two fatalities, 15 people sustained injuries, some of them serious. The nightclub has been shut down pending a thorough investigation into the incident.
This tragedy follows another recent incident in Mexico, where nine people died and 121 were injured when a stage collapsed due to heavy winds at a campaign rally in San Pedro Garza Garcia, located in the state of Nuevo Leon.
