In a bizarre and somewhat amusing incident, a dog caused a mini explosion inside a house while chewing on a battery, prompting the Tulsa Fire Department to release a video highlighting the dangers of lithium-ion batteries. The footage, which has since gone viral on social media, showcases the dramatic and comedic attempts of the dog and its fellow pets to handle the fire.
The incident occurred when the dog, along with a cat and another dog, was lounging in the living room. The pet found a lithium-ion battery pack, used for charging a phone, and began to chew on it. Sparks quickly started to fly, and the battery eventually burst into flames, setting the dog’s bed on fire.
The video captures the pets’ futile attempts to extinguish the flames. According to the Instagram page We Rate Dogs, the dog and its companions tried various “fire suppression tactics,” including staring at the flames and barking at them, in an effort to stop the fire. Despite their efforts, all three animals managed to evacuate the house safely through a doggy door.
The Tulsa Fire Department shared the video as part of a public safety campaign to raise awareness about the risks associated with lithium-ion batteries. They emphasize the importance of storing such batteries out of reach of pets and children to prevent similar accidents.
Instagram users have reacted to the video with a mix of humor and concern. One user joked, “And that’s how dogs discovered fire,” while another commented, “I’m so mad that the fire didn’t get scared of them barking at it and stop.”
