A shocking incident came to light on the Bhopal-Delhi Vande Bharat Express when a passenger discovered a cockroach in the meal served to him by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The anguished passenger took to Twitter on Monday to share images of the distressing experience, sparking outrage and raising concerns about food quality on Indian trains.
The passenger, with the username @subodhpahalajan, posted the images on Twitter along with a complaint directed at IRCTC, stating, “@IRCTCofficial found a cockroach in my food, in the Vande Bharat train. #Vandebharatexpress.”
Responding swiftly to the complaint, IRCTC issued an apology for the unpleasant incident and took strict action against the food service provider. They imposed a hefty penalty on the service provider and strengthened monitoring at the source kitchen to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Indian Railways also addressed the issue on their official Twitter handle (@Railsewa), expressing regret for the passenger’s unpleasant experience and assuring that necessary actions would be taken to prevent similar incidents. They requested the passenger to share their PNR and mobile number via Direct Message (DM) for further assistance.
Furthermore, the Divisional Railway Manager of Bhopal also acknowledged the matter on Twitter and confirmed that IRCTC had promptly arranged alternative food for the affected passenger. They reassured the public that appropriate punitive action had been taken against the licensee, demonstrating the railway’s zero-tolerance policy towards such lapses.
Regrettably, this incident is not an isolated one, as several other passengers traveling on the same train also took to Twitter to express grievances about the food quality. This incident highlights the need for a comprehensive review of the food services provided by IRCTC and its licensees to ensure passengers’ safety and satisfaction.
