In a bizarre incident in China, a mischievous cat named Jingoudiao accidentally turned on an induction cooker in its owner’s kitchen, leading to a fire that caused more than 100,000 yuan (approximately ₹11 lakh) in damages.
The cat’s owner, identified as Dandan, received a distressing phone call from the property management staff on April 4, informing her that her home was on fire. Rushing back to her flat in Sichuan province, southwestern China, Dandan discovered that the fire was ignited when her curious feline companion inadvertently activated the touch panel of the induction cooker while playing in the kitchen.
The resulting blaze engulfed the entire first floor of her loft, prompting a swift response from firefighters. Fortunately, they found Jingoudiao unharmed, albeit covered in ash, hiding in a cabinet upstairs.
In a light-hearted response to the incident, Dandan changed her cat’s Douyin account name to ”Sichuan’s most badass cat” and began featuring Jingoudiao in live-streaming sessions as a form of ”compensation.” She jokingly labeled the cat as an ”arsonist” and humorously referred to him as ”working to pay off his debt.”
The incident gained attention online as Dandan’s posts and videos went viral, attracting interest and comments from fellow pet owners. Dandan later posted a letter of apology online, acknowledging her oversight in leaving the power on for the cooker and pledging to prioritize fire safety measures in the future.
The amusing yet cautionary tale serves as a reminder of the unexpected consequences that can arise from pets’ playful antics and highlights the importance of fire safety precautions in households, particularly with electrical appliances.
