A shocking incident occurred in northeast Philadelphia when a metal piece from a private plane crash struck a man sitting inside a diner, injuring him. The incident, captured in a viral 16-second video, shows customers ducking for cover at Four Seasons Diner, located about a quarter mile away from the crash site. One man was hit by a piece of metal that flew through the window, leaving him with a bleeding head injury.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday, involved a Learjet 55, an American-French business jet, that had taken off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The aircraft was headed to Branson, Missouri, carrying six people. The plane went down in a residential area, creating a massive fireball upon impact and scattering wreckage across homes and vehicles.
Paul Pul, an employee at the diner, told 6abc Action News, “He was OK, but I mean he was bleeding. A lot of bleeding on his head. Just shocking.”
Restaurant manager Ayhan Tiryaki confirmed the incident, stating to the New York Post, “We are all pretty shaken, but everyone is okay. One customer was hit in the head with a piece of metal and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. We don’t know exactly how he is but we hope he’ll be okay.” He added that no one else at the diner was injured.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, which tragically claimed the lives of all six people aboard the aircraft. The incident follows a devastating midair collision between a passenger plane and a military helicopter in Washington, D.C., just two days earlier, which killed 67 people—the deadliest crash in the U.S. since 2009.
As the community reels from this horrific series of aviation incidents, authorities are continuing to gather information, while those affected, including the diner customers, hope for the swift recovery of the injured man.
