In a daring and swift operation reminiscent of a heist movie, twenty masked individuals raided a Pune-based jewellery store’s branch in the United States, leaving it emptied within minutes. The incident took place at the store of PNG Jewellers in Sunnyvale, California, and was captured by CCTV cameras, with footage circulating widely on social media.
The CCTV footage shows the masked robbers, some wearing hoodies, forcefully entering the store by breaking the glass doors. Despite the presence of a lone security guard, the robbers quickly overpowered him and proceeded to ransack the store.
Once inside, the robbers systematically targeted each desk where jewellery was kept, breaking the glass displays and swiftly packing the loot into backpacks. The entire operation, from entry to exit, lasted less than three minutes, indicating a well-coordinated and planned attack.
Local media reports suggest that the robbers may have conducted prior surveillance of the store, as they appeared familiar with its layout. This level of preparation allowed them to execute the heist efficiently, leaving authorities stunned at the audacity of the crime.
Following the incident, five suspects have been arrested, according to local media sources. PNG Jewellers, known for its global presence with stores in India, the US, and Dubai, expressed shock at the brazen robbery. The jeweller’s website highlights its growth from a single store to an international chain, honoring its late founder Purshottam Narayan Gadgil.
The robbery serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by businesses, even in seemingly secure locations, and underscores the need for heightened security measures to deter such criminal acts in the future.
