The Israeli military has leveled accusations against Iran, asserting that it ordered Hezbollah to conduct attacks at the Lebanon-Israel border on Sunday. Chief military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari stated that “Hezbollah carried out a number of shooting attacks in order to distract from our war efforts in the south (Gaza), under Iranian instruction and with (Iranian) support.”
This development comes as over a million people fled their homes in the Gaza Strip in anticipation of an Israeli invasion aimed at eliminating the leadership of Hamas. Israeli forces have positioned themselves along Gaza’s border after a week of intense airstrikes that have left neighborhoods in ruins.
The ongoing war, which began on October 7, has now become the deadliest of the five Gaza conflicts for both sides, resulting in over 4,000 casualties. The Gaza health ministry reported 2,670 Palestinians killed and 9,600 wounded, while more than 1,400 Israelis have lost their lives. At least 155 individuals, including children, have been captured by Hamas and taken into Gaza.
Israeli defense forces spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner emphasized that the army has carried out numerous strikes with the aim of destroying Hamas’ capabilities. He stated that Israel is determined to eliminate Hamas’ infrastructure, pursue its leaders, and restore security to the Israeli people.
Lerner highlighted that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have targeted and killed several of Hamas’ leaders, including those directly involved in heinous acts. Israel’s objective is to prevent Hamas from using the Gaza Strip as a base for attacks on Israeli civilians.
