An earthquake of magnitude 5.2 rattled Afghanistan, as reported by the National Center for Seismology. The seismic activity sent tremors across various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan, causing alarm among residents, according to ARY News. The affected areas included Swat, Mingora, Lower Pir, Upper Dir, and neighboring regions.
The quake prompted people to evacuate their homes in apprehension, although initial reports indicated no casualties or property damage.
This seismic event follows a similar incident in November when a 3.3 magnitude earthquake shook Gilgit and nearby areas. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) confirmed the tremors in Gilgit but assured no loss of life or property damage. The earthquake’s epicenter, situated 84 kilometers northwest, had a depth of 45 kilometers, as per NSMC Islamabad.
Afghanistan, situated in a seismic zone, frequently experiences earthquakes, and the recent occurrence has reignited concerns about seismic activities in the region. The tremors felt in Pakistan serve as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of certain areas to such natural events.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging preparedness and vigilance among residents residing in earthquake-prone zones. Efforts are underway to ensure swift response mechanisms in the event of any further seismic activities.
