A 21-year-old Nepali student was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in her Houston apartment on Monday, August 26. Muna Pandey, a community college student, was discovered by authorities after an anonymous tip led to a 911 call from her apartment complex located at 6363 West Airport Boulevard.
The Houston Police Department confirmed that Pandey was pronounced dead at the scene. A surveillance photo released by the police led to the identification of Bobby Singh Shah, 51, as a suspect. Shah was seen leaving Pandey’s apartment two days before her body was found.
Shah was arrested during a traffic stop in northwest Houston later that evening. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has charged him with capital murder. His arrest was the result of a coordinated effort involving HPD SWAT officers, the HPD Crime Reduction Unit, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Pandey’s family is currently raising funds through a GoFundMe campaign to cover travel and funeral expenses. Her mother, Anita Pandey, who resides overseas, had been trying to reach her daughter for days prior to discovering the tragedy.
Drona Gautam of the Nepalese Association of Houston expressed concerns over the investigation, noting that Pandey had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was found lying on her bed. The community is rallying to support Anita Pandey as the investigation continues.
