A video clip of former President Donald Trump calling Barack Obama the founder of ISIS has circulated widely on social media following the recent terror attack in Moscow. However, the context of Trump’s comments has been misrepresented in the viral video.
The footage shows Trump stating, “ISIS is honouring President Obama. He is the founder of ISIS. He founded ISIS. And, I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hilary Clinton.” It’s important to note that these remarks were made during Trump’s 2016 campaign address from Sunrise, Florida, where he criticized Obama’s foreign policy and national security decisions.
Contrary to the implication in the viral video, Trump did not make these comments in response to the Moscow terror attack. The video resurfaced and gained traction in the aftermath of the tragic events in Moscow.
Turning to the Moscow terror attack itself, Russia announced that 11 individuals, including four suspected gunmen, have been arrested in connection with the shooting at a concert hall that left 143 people dead. The Russian security agency revealed that the attackers had links in Ukraine and were attempting to cross the Russian-Ukrainian border after the attack.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack through a statement published by an ISIS-affiliated news agency on Telegram. However, no concrete evidence has been provided to support this claim. The attackers reportedly used automatic weapons and explosive devices, resulting in a fire and partial collapse of the concert hall’s roof.
Authorities worked for over six hours to bring the fire under control, highlighting the severity of the incident and the challenges faced by law enforcement in responding to such acts of terrorism.
