Thousands Face Job Cuts in Texas as Major Companies Announce Layoffs for 2025

Texas Faces Wave of Layoffs in 2025: Major Companies Slashing Jobs Across the State

Texas is bracing for a wave of mass layoffs in 2025, with thousands of workers expected to lose their jobs across various sectors, according to the Texas Workforce Commission’s latest WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice. Some of the affected employees will be let go as early as April 2025, as companies adjust to economic challenges and internal restructuring.

Among the most significant job cuts is at Texas Instruments Inc, which announced last month that it would eliminate 3,400 positions. This includes 1,800 layoffs and an additional 1,600 jobs shed through voluntary retirements and departures, representing around 12% of its workforce.

Other companies listed in the April 2025 WARN notice include:

  • Houston Refining: 345 job cuts
  • Christus Health Santa Rosa Medical Center: 479 layoffs
  • L3Harris Technologies: 179 positions slashed
  • Southwest Airlines at Dallas Love Field Airport: 626 layoffs
  • LX Pantos America: 131 employees affected
  • JELD-WEN (Coppell facility): 56 job losses

Dickies Workwear, a historic brand operating from Fort Worth since 1922, also announced a major shift, moving its hub to California. While the company will maintain some operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including its distribution facility and retail outlets, the move marks the end of an era in the Lone Star State. “We remain proud of Dickies’ storied Fort Worth roots… and will maintain a strong employment presence in the area,” the company said in a statement.

Meanwhile, SouthState Bank will be cutting over 141 jobs at its McKinney headquarters between May 31 and June 30. ProBar, an immigration legal services project associated with the American Bar Association, has reported 191 jobs at risk — 127 confirmed layoffs and 64 contingent on a pending contract renewal decision expected on March 29, 2025. The ABA has yet to officially comment on the job cuts.

As these layoffs loom, affected employees across Texas are left facing uncertainty. The state’s workforce agencies and support services will likely play a critical role in assisting displaced workers through retraining programs and job placement initiatives in the coming months.
