A tragic plane crash off the coast of Honduras’ Roatan Island claimed the lives of at least seven people on Monday, as a Jetstream aircraft operated by Honduran carrier Lanhsa plunged into the sea shortly after takeoff.

The aircraft was carrying 17 people, including three crew members, when it went down about a kilometer from the coast. Authorities managed to retrieve 10 survivors, but six of them succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, according to Major Wilmer Guerrero of the fire department. The body of a crew member was later found floating near the wreckage.
Visuals of the crash have surfaced on social media, showing the devastating aftermath. The island’s police chief, Lisandro Muñoz, confirmed that the plane crashed into the water shortly after departing, making rescue and recovery efforts challenging.
According to Honduras’ transport minister, the plane was en route to La Ceiba airport on the mainland. Among the passengers were a U.S. national, a French national, and two minors.
Delta Airlines Jet Hits Wing on Runway in New York
Meanwhile, in another aviation incident in the United States, a Delta Airlines regional jet struck the runway at New York’s LaGuardia Airport late Sunday while executing a go-around. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the left wing of Endeavor Air Flight 4814 made contact with the runway at around 10:10 p.m. EDT during an attempted landing. The go-around was initiated due to an unstable approach.
The FAA has launched an investigation into the incident. Delta Airlines stated that the flight, which had departed from Jacksonville, Florida, carried 76 passengers and four crew members. The airline assured that the crew followed standard safety procedures and the aircraft landed safely before proceeding to its designated gate.
