Neeraj Chopra Climbs Back to No. 1 in World Javelin Rankings

Indian athletics icon Neeraj Chopra has risen once again to the top of the men’s javelin world rankings, overtaking Grenadian thrower Anderson Peters. As per the latest update from World Athletics, Chopra now leads with 1445 points, while Peters follows with 1431.

A Strong Comeback After Slipping in 2024

Neeraj had briefly lost his top spot after the Paris Olympics 2024, where he won a silver medal, with Peters finishing just behind him in bronze. But his stellar 2025 performances have helped him regain the No. 1 spot in style.

Highlights of Chopra’s 2025 Season

Neeraj kicked off his season with a victory in South Africa at the Potch Invitational. He then delivered a historic performance at the Doha Diamond League, where he threw 90.23 metres, breaking the Indian national record and entering the elite 90m+ club.

He followed it up with a second-place finish in Poland at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial and a gold medal in the Paris Diamond League with an 88.16m effort. Most recently, he also won the Ostrava Golden Spike, strengthening his dominance.

Top 5 Rankings: Where Others Stand

Neeraj may be back at No. 1, but the competition remains intense. Julian Weber of Germany holds third place, having recorded the world’s leading throw this year (91.06m). Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan, the reigning Olympic champion, is ranked fourth with 1370 points, while Czech thrower Jakub Vadlejch rounds out the top five.

One-Sided Rivalry: Chopra Leads Over Peters

The Neeraj-Peters rivalry has become a focal point in global javelin. This season, Neeraj has beaten Peters in all four of their matchups, increasing his career lead to 16-5 in final rounds. Their last reversal was in 2022 at the World Championships in Budapest, where Peters took gold.
