
A devastating explosion at a restaurant in Yanjiao, north China’s Hebei Province, has resulted in one fatality and left 22 others injured, according to reports from official media. The incident, suspected to be caused by a gas leak, occurred at a fried chicken shop within Yanjiao township, situated on the outskirts of Beijing.
State-run Xinhua news agency reported that the explosion, which occurred at a restaurant on the ground floor of an old residential complex, caused significant damage to the building and several vehicles parked nearby. Videos circulating online depict scenes of chaos, with a massive plume of blue smoke, damaged cars, and debris strewn across the area.
Local authorities swiftly responded to the incident, dispatching an investigation team to the scene and initiating rescue efforts. Police cordoned off streets within a one-kilometer radius of the explosion site, redirecting traffic and guiding civilians away from the area. Firefighters and emergency services personnel were mobilized to the scene to contain the situation.
State broadcaster CCTV described the explosion as a “suspected gas explosion,” which took place around 7:55 am local time in the village of Xiaozhanggezhuang, Yanjiao, less than 50 kilometers east of Beijing. Footage shared on social media platforms captured the aftermath of the blast, revealing a collapsed building and numerous severely damaged vehicles.
In separate incidents, two coal mine accidents in China have claimed the lives of 12 individuals within a span of 24 hours, according to reports from state broadcaster CCTV. These tragedies underscore ongoing safety concerns within the coal mining industry, prompting calls for stricter regulations and enforcement measures to prevent future accidents.
