The man, known only by the pseudonym Xiaojun, hails from Jilin province in northeastern China. Despite his modest background, Xiaojun created a fabricated image of himself as a wealthy heir, deceiving those around him into believing his false narrative. He convinced his wife, Xiaojia, that he was from a wealthy family that ran a successful business, even though his real family background was far humbler—his mother worked as a bathhouse attendant and his father held various part-time construction jobs. To further cement his story, Xiaojun even gifted his wife counterfeit luxury items purchased online.
After Xiaojia became pregnant, they formalized their relationship through marriage. However, once she learned of Xiaojun’s true financial situation, she chose not to divorce him. Instead, she decided to raise their child alone, eventually expelling him from their home.
Once out of the house, Xiaojun continued his web of deceit, meeting other women and maintaining separate relationships. He began an affair with Xiaohong, whom he met online, borrowing 140,000 yuan from her under false pretenses. He rented a flat nearby to live with her, while still dating three other women, including university students Xiaomin and Xiaoxin and nurse Xiaolan, all while extracting smaller sums from them. His deception seemed to go unnoticed by all, until Xiaoxin grew suspicious.
Xiaoxin’s suspicions were sparked when she discovered fake cash in a bag Xiaojun had claimed contained a large sum of money. Alarmed, she reported the situation to the police, leading to his arrest.
