After a six-year absence, Alex Batty, a British teenager who vanished during a holiday in Spain at the age of 11, is set to return home from France today, marking the end of a long and mysterious disappearance.
French prosecutor Samuel Vuelta Simon confirmed that Batty would take a direct flight from Toulouse to London late this afternoon, shedding light on a complex journey that began with his disappearance from a spiritualist community in the Pyrenees mountains during a holiday in Malaga, Spain, alongside his mother and grandfather in 2017.
Antoine Leroy, Toulouse’s deputy prosecutor, revealed that the now-17-year-old teenager had spent the last two years residing in various regions of southern France, notably within “spiritual communities” alongside his mother, clarifying that these communities were not deemed sects.
Tragically, Leroy noted that the boy’s grandfather passed away approximately six months ago, while the whereabouts of the teenager’s mother, reportedly in Finland presently, remain uncertain. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been collaborating with French authorities to facilitate Batty’s return to his grandmother, who holds legal guardianship.
