An Air India flight en route from New Delhi to Tel Aviv was diverted to Abu Dhabi on Sunday following a missile strike near Ben Gurion Airport in Israel, just under an hour before the aircraft was scheduled to land.
Flight AI139, which departed Delhi on the morning of May 4, was in Jordanian airspace when the airline made the decision to reroute the plane to Abu Dhabi as a precautionary measure. According to flight tracking data from Flightradar24, the flight landed safely in the United Arab Emirates.
“Air India flight AI139 from Delhi to Tel Aviv of 4 May 2025 was diverted to Abu Dhabi after an incident at Ben Gurion Airport this morning. The flight has landed normally in Abu Dhabi and will soon return to Delhi,” an Air India spokesperson said in a statement.
In response to the escalating security situation, the airline also announced a temporary suspension of its Tel Aviv operations.
“Our operations to and from Tel Aviv will remain suspended with immediate effect till 6 May 2025, to ensure the safety of our customers and staff,” the spokesperson added. Affected passengers holding valid tickets for flights between May 4 and May 6 are being offered a one-time waiver for rescheduling or a full refund for cancellations.
“Air India places the highest priority on the safety of its customers and crew,” the spokesperson emphasized.
