Renowned entrepreneur and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has once again stirred controversy with his outspoken views on US aid to Ukraine, asserting that Russian President Vladimir Putin is unlikely to lose the ongoing conflict. Musk’s remarks came during a discussion session on X (formerly Twitter), hosted by venture capitalist David Sacks, and attended by several notable figures including Senators Ron Johnson, Mike Lee, J.D. Vance, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
The conversation centered around the Ukraine funding bill, coinciding with the Senate’s deliberation on a $95.34 billion aid package for Taiwan, Israel, and Ukraine. Musk expressed skepticism about the efficacy of US assistance to Ukraine, arguing that prolonging the war would not benefit the country.
Musk, known for his unfiltered opinions, has previously voiced doubts about Ukraine’s ability to prevail in the conflict and has criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s calls for increased assistance. He suggested that Putin is under intense pressure to continue the fight and warned against the consequences of regime change in Russia, cautioning that any successor to Putin could be more uncompromising.
Senator Johnson echoed Musk’s sentiments, emphasizing the existential stakes for Putin in the conflict and asserting that the Russian president is unlikely to lose. Musk refuted accusations of being a Putin supporter, highlighting SpaceX’s efforts to undermine Russia’s space launch industry and provide crucial internet access to Ukraine through Starlink.
Expressing his disbelief at the continuation of US aid to Ukraine, Musk retweeted a statement from Senator J.D. Vance criticizing the allocation of additional funds. Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson also weighed in, raising concerns about the Ukrainian government’s actions and questioning the need for further financial assistance.
In a separate development, the US Senate passed a $95.3 billion foreign aid measure, including provisions for Israel and Ukraine. However, prospects for the bill’s passage in the House of Representatives remain uncertain, with Speaker Mike Johnson condemning the legislation.
As Musk’s remarks continue to fuel debate and scrutiny, his interventions underscore the complexities of international relations and the divergent perspectives on foreign aid and geopolitical strategy. The discussion surrounding US assistance to Ukraine reflects broader tensions within the political landscape, highlighting the challenges of navigating global conflicts and humanitarian crises.
