This conspicuous display of affluence mirrors Kim Jong Un’s own penchant for luxury vehicles. Previous sightings showcased the leader in various Mercedes-Maybach S-class models, including a distinctive limousine. Notably, in 2020, Kim Jong Un was spotted in an SUV believed to be a Lexus LX 570, implying ownership of luxury vehicles explicitly prohibited by UN sanctions.
Recent reports from the South China Morning Post detailed Japan’s interception of a $70,000 Lexus sedan intended for North Korea. The vehicle’s seizure occurred during a raid on a used car showroom in Chiba prefecture after North Korea recalled its ambassador to Switzerland amid an ivory trafficking investigation.
The meeting chaired by Kim Jong Un encapsulated his vision for 2023, labeling it “a year of great turn and great change both in name and reality.” His remarks, as reported by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), emphasized North Korea’s strides in enhancing national power and bolstering the country’s prestige.
This declaration arrived in the wake of North Korea’s provocative actions, including the test-firing of the Hwasong-18, its most advanced intercontinental ballistic missile, marking the third such test this year.
