In a significant address during the inauguration of the 20th-anniversary celebration of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recounted the remarkable journey of this renowned business event. He shared insights into the summit’s inception and how it overcame challenges posed by the central government during its early years.
Modi revealed that during the initial years of the Vibrant Gujarat summit, the central government did not extend any cooperation, and central ministers refused to attend the event. He reminisced, “Pata nahi peeche se danda chalta tha, vo mana kar dete the” (I don’t know what happened behind the scenes, but they used to refuse).” Despite these adversities, investors flocked to Gujarat, driven solely by the state’s good governance, fair practices, equitable growth, and transparency.
The Prime Minister accused the previous central government of viewing Gujarat’s progress through a political lens. He stressed that Gujarat’s development was not limited to the state but was pursued with a national vision, emphasizing that all states were invited to participate in Vibrant Gujarat, making it a pan-Indian endeavor.
“Gujarat was always known as a traders’ state. But in the 21st century, Gujarat became an agricultural, financial, industrial, and manufacturing hub when the state also strengthened its trade,” Modi proclaimed, highlighting the state’s multifaceted growth.
Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, an event initiated by then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi in 2003, has grown into a prestigious platform for global investors and businesses. The 10th edition of the summit, themed ‘Gateway to the Future,’ is scheduled to take place in Gandhinagar from January 10 to 12 next year, marking two decades of successful economic collaboration and growth.
Modi’s reflections during the celebration underscored the resilience, determination, and vision that have powered Gujarat’s remarkable transformation into an economic powerhouse.
