In a groundbreaking moment for both gender and minority representation in Pakistan, 25-year-old Kashish Chaudhary has become the first Hindu woman to be appointed as an Assistant Commissioner in Balochistan. Hailing from Noshki, a remote town in the underdeveloped Chagai district, Kashish achieved this milestone after successfully clearing the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination.
Her accomplishment has been widely celebrated on social media, where many lauded her as an inspiration for young women and minority communities across the country. Her journey to success was marked by three years of unwavering dedication and discipline. Speaking to Samaa News, Kashish shared that she maintained an intense daily study routine of eight hours.
“Discipline, hard work, and the desire to contribute to society have driven me throughout this journey,” she stated.
On Monday, Kashish met Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti in Quetta, accompanied by her father, Girdhari Lal. During the meeting, she expressed her commitment to working for the empowerment of women and minority communities in the province. Her father proudly described the moment as a “matter of great pride,” noting that Kashish had always dreamt of making a difference for women.
Kashish now joins a growing list of pioneering Hindu women in Pakistan who have broken barriers in traditionally male-dominated professions. In 2022, Manesh Ropeta became the first Hindu woman to be appointed as Superintendent of Police in Karachi. Similarly, Pushpa Kumari Kohli, who cleared the Sindh Public Service Examination, now serves as a sub-inspector in Karachi Police. Additionally, Suman Pawan Bodani continues her tenure as a civil judge in Hyderabad, a role she first assumed in 2019.
Though Pakistan’s Hindu population is predominantly based in the Sindh province, Kashish’s success in Balochistan is a significant symbol of progress, inclusivity, and representation for marginalized communities in the region.
