Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, created by Elon Musk’s company, has been making waves on social media with its surprisingly smooth and skillful dance moves. The latest video showcasing Optimus dancing to a catchy tune has not only captivated the general public but also caught the attention of prominent tech leaders like Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke.
The video, originally posted on Tesla’s dedicated Optimus X handle and reshared by Lutke, displays the robot executing a variety of dance moves with remarkable fluidity. Lutke commented on the post, saying, “We are here on this timeline’s tech tree,” signaling his amazement at the technological breakthrough.
Elon Musk had captioned the video, “Was just getting warmed up,” highlighting the potential for Optimus to develop even more advanced capabilities. Social media users quickly flooded the comments with praise, with one person stating, “Optimus already dances better than most humans. Wow.” Another user, identifying as a control engineer, shared, “This brings tears to my eyes,” while others expressed awe at the robot’s progress and potential impact.
Indian-origin Tesla AI expert Srihari Sampathkumar also shared his excitement, explaining the technical challenges behind robotic dancing. “Dancing is a hard problem not just for humans, even for robots. It stresses timing, torque, and latency budgets. @Tesla_Optimus nails it like a pro dancer with all of the AI inference running on-board in real-time!” he remarked.
Optimus was introduced by Elon Musk as a versatile robot designed to handle a wide array of tasks. Musk described the robot as capable of performing duties such as teaching, babysitting, walking dogs, mowing lawns, grocery shopping, serving drinks, and even being a companion.
With Optimus demonstrating such fluid and human-like movements, Tesla is inching closer to realizing Musk’s vision of a multi-purpose humanoid robot that could revolutionize everyday life and work.
