A late-night shooting in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left more than 20 others injured. The incident occurred just after 11 PM in the Five Points South area, a popular entertainment district known for its vibrant nightlife.
According to police and news reports, multiple shooters opened fire on a crowd gathered near 20th Street and Magnolia Avenue. Birmingham Officer Truman Fitzgerald reported that the shooting resulted in “dozens of gunshot victims,” with at least four suffering from life-threatening injuries. Officers arrived on the scene to find two men and a woman unresponsive from gunshot wounds. The three were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth victim succumbed to their injuries later at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, which treated a total of 11 victims.
As of early Sunday morning, no suspects had been taken into custody, and authorities are working to determine whether the shooters approached the victims on foot or fired from a vehicle. The investigation is still in its early stages, and the motives behind the mass shooting remain unclear.
Officer Fitzgerald expressed concern over the rising violence, attributing the incident to a cultural issue. “We’re seeing far too many arguments settled by bullets,” he lamented, highlighting the need for change in how conflicts are addressed.
