A 29-year-old Indian-origin man, newly married just weeks ago, was tragically shot dead in a suspected road rage incident on Tuesday in Indianapolis. The victim, Gavin Dasaur, was returning home with his Mexican wife, Viviana ZaMora, when the altercation occurred at an intersection on the city’s southeast side.
Dasaur, originally from Agra, India, had tied the knot with ZaMora on June 29, only two weeks before his untimely death. The couple’s joy was cut short by a violent confrontation that ended in fatality.
According to police reports, Dasaur and ZaMora were involved in a heated argument with the driver of a pickup truck. A video capturing the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, shows Dasaur exiting his vehicle and confronting the pickup truck driver. In a moment of intense escalation, Dasaur is seen punching the truck’s door with a gun in his hand. The driver of the pickup truck, in response, fired at Dasaur, resulting in the fatal wound.
Dasaur was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to save him. ZaMora, who was present at the scene, recounted holding her husband as he bled out while waiting for emergency services to arrive.
The accused shooter, who was initially detained by the police, has been released following a review of the incident. Police indicated that the shooter might have acted in self-defense. “Upon further investigation and after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, that individual was released,” said a police spokesperson.
