In a tragic incident at a supermarket in Fordyce, Arkansas, a gunman opened fire, resulting in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to 10 others, including two police officers. The shooter was also wounded in a shootout with law enforcement.
The Arkansas State Police confirmed the details, stating that the shooting took place at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, a small town located about 70 miles south of Little Rock. The incident has shocked the community, with Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders expressing her condolences and gratitude to law enforcement and first responders for their swift response.
“Unfortunately, we can confirm that 11 innocent civilians were shot, and three of those are deceased. Two law enforcement officers were injured in the exchange of gunfire. The suspect was also shot and taken into custody,” said Arkansas State Police Director Mike Hagar during a press briefing. He did not provide further details about the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The wounded police officers and the suspect are expected to survive, according to Hagar. The civilian victims suffered injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to critical.
