Chief Floyd Mitchell of the Oakland Police Department stated in a press conference on Thursday that the violence erupted after someone walked onto the hood of a car, leading to an altercation and eventually gunfire.
The Oakland Fire Department confirmed transporting at least four gunshot victims to a local hospital, while police assisted in transporting other victims to nearby medical facilities. Some victims also self-transported for medical care.
